How to Double Your Return on Every Continuing Education Course You Take

    Shares

Every year, health and wellness providers spend thousands of dollars on continuing education. Courses, certifications, workshops, conferences. And every year, most of that investment goes to waste. Not because the training is bad, but because therapists do not know how to turn what they learn into tangible results for their practice. I want to change that.

I have been in this industry since 1995, and I have taken more continuing education courses than I can count. Some of them were life-changing. Most of them, honestly, did not move the needle for my business at all. The difference was not in the quality of the training. It was in what I did with it afterwards.

    The Continuing Education Trap

Here is the pattern I see with most therapists. They take a course. They get excited about a new technique or modality. They go back to their practice and try to incorporate it. But within a few weeks, they have moved on to the next course, the next shiny object, and the investment they made in the first one has essentially evaporated.

This is not a learning problem. It is a leverage problem. Most therapists learn plenty. What they fail to do is leverage what they learn into something that actually grows their practice, attracts new clients, and positions them as authorities in their field.

How to Get Double the Value from Every Course

The strategy is simpler than you might think. Every time you complete a continuing education course, do two things. First, update your marketing to reflect your new training. That means your website, your bio, your brochures and flyers, and your social media profiles. Do not just add another line to your credentials list. Create content that explains what this new training means for your clients and how it will help them get better results.

Second, tell your existing clients about it. Send an email. Make a social media post. Mention it in your sessions. Let people know that you are continuously investing in your skills because you are committed to providing the best possible care. This builds confidence and loyalty in ways that most therapists completely overlook.

    Turn Your Training Into Content

One of the most powerful things you can do after completing a course is write about what you learned. Not the technical details, but the takeaways that matter to your clients. A blog post, an email newsletter, even a short video talking about a new approach you can now offer. This does triple duty: it reinforces your own learning, it gives you fresh content for your marketing, and it positions you as someone who never stops growing.

If you are investing in continuing education anyway, and you should be, you owe it to yourself to squeeze every drop of value out of that investment.
